Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson received China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Stockholm on Saturday. The war in Ukraine and Sweden’s demand that the publisher Gui Minhai be released were on the agenda.
It is the first time in 22 years that a Chinese foreign minister is visiting Sweden.
“Today I received and spoke with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. It is of course important for Sweden to have a functioning dialogue with the world’s second largest country and the world’s second largest economy,” says Kristersson in a written comment to TT and continues:
“I addressed Sweden’s demand that Gui Minhai be released and reunited with his family in Sweden. We also discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine and current trade issues between China and the EU.”
Wang Yi and Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard have also met for discussions on current issues of bilateral interest during the visit. The trade relationship between the EU and China is also on the agenda.
