People on the run in Congo-Kinshasa suffer in the dark. It is considered one of the world’s most forgotten crises – for the tenth year in a row.
International support for the notoriously crisis-stricken country is falling and last year was the lowest in ten years. For as many years it has figured on the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) list of the most neglected refugee crises in the world.
In 2025, more than 21 million people in the country are estimated to have received too little or no help against war, hunger and disease outbreaks. Recently Ebola broke out.
“This shows the world’s failure to react to crises that are not considered strategically important for rich countries,” says NRC Secretary General Jan Egeland.
The war in Sudan, with millions on the run, is judged to receive the least attention and aid.
