The Rae Bareli Government Hospital for Men in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh witnessed a dehumanizing incident, in which a young man suffering from weak mental faculties was physically and verbally assaulted by a female employee.

The incident sparked a widespread wave of anger after the spread of a video clip documenting the details of the attack, which prompted the health and government authorities to take firm and urgent decisions.

The 39-second clip shows the victim sitting on the hospital floor, while a woman violently kicks and pushes him several times, while directing insults and profanity at him.

According to local Indian media, the young man was in a state of mental weakness that prevented him from expressing any resistance or defending himself. What increased the state of public anger was the presence of a number of people in the vicinity of the incident, but none of them intervened to protect the patient or stop the attacker.

Initial investigations revealed that the assailant is called Pinky, and she works in the hospital as a cleaning lady under an employment contract. The clip sparked more controversy because she appeared wearing white clothing, a clothing usually associated with trained nursing staff, which raised questions about the reason for her wearing this uniform and possible administrative abuses, despite the fact that there was no official comment from the hospital administration about the hiring mechanism or dress code.

Deputy Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Brijesh Pathak, reacted to the viral clip, and posted a message on his official account in which he said: “After taking note of the video clip of the cleaning lady abusing a patient suffering from a mental disorder, and in implementation of my instructions, the chief medical officer suspended the employee’s work.” “Such an incident cannot be forgiven under any circumstances, and any mistreatment of any patient will not be tolerated,” Pathak stressed.

On the administrative level, the hospital’s chief medical supervisor, Dr. Pushpendra Singh, stated that the cleaning lady was immediately suspended from work due to the seriousness of the scene. Singh confirmed the start of a comprehensive administrative investigation, noting that if the employee is convicted, strict legal measures will be taken against her. He also explained that the investigation will look into the possibility of negligence or negligence on the part of other employees who were at the scene and did not intervene to prevent the attack.

The incident was widely condemned by local residents and social organizations, who expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the occurrence of such violations inside a facility designated for care and treatment. The angry people demanded on social media platforms that the most severe punishments be imposed on the aggressor, and that effective measures be taken to ensure that such tragedies are not repeated in the future.
