Eight men have been charged by federal court in the United States, suspected of planning an attack on a UFC gala held at the White House in June this year.

Just days after the gala, the FBI announced that it had foiled “a potential attack” on the martial arts event held on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. Among the roughly 4,000 people in the audience were both government members and business leaders.

The men now indicted are accused of having planned murder and terrorist acts.

According to the indictment, the plans for an attack started in May, when the group allegedly began collecting money, weapons, ammunition, explosives, life jackets and drones.

One of the defendants allegedly admitted to investigators that they planned to fly drones loaded with explosives into the area of the event, and then shoot the fleeing visitors.
