France achieved an important victory over its Paraguayan counterpart, setting up a date with Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.

The French national team won all five of its matches in the 2026 World Cup, achieving five consecutive victories in one major tournament for the second time in its history after Euro 1984. It also won the last 8 matches it played in the round of 16 of the World Cup, and its last elimination in this round dates back to the 1934 edition, when it lost to Austria 3-2 after extra time.

France won all eight matches it played in the United States, the country in which it played the largest number of matches, achieving a win rate of 100%.

While France recorded a possession rate of 76% against Paraguay, its highest percentage in a major tournament since Opta began collecting this data in 1966.

France scored its 150th goal in the World Cup, becoming the fourth team to reach this total after Brazil (246), Germany (243), and Argentina (163), as well as its last 17 penalty kicks in all competitions (including 13 by Kylian Mbappe), and its last failure dates back to June 2021 against Wales (Karim Benzema).

Paraguay did not win any of their seven matches in the World Cup knockout stages (drew two and lost five), which is the largest number of matches without a win at this stage in the history of the tournament.

Manu Kone’s shot in the 22nd minute was the first in the Paraguay-France match. Only the France-Tunisia match in the group stage for the 2022 edition (25th minute) witnessed a more late first shot in a World Cup since 1966.

Kylian Mbappé scored his 19th World Cup goal, bettered only by Lionel Messi (20), and it was his 11th goal in the knockout stages, which is at least three more than any other player.

Meanwhile, Didier Deschamps, coach of the France national team, achieved his tenth victory in the knockout stages of the World Cup, which is a record in the history of the tournament.

Mbappe participated primarily in the formation of his country’s national team to face Paraguay in the round of 16 competitions, recording his participation in 103 matches in his country’s national team shirt, equaling Didier Deschamps, the current coach, who won the World Cup with the Roosters as a player in 1998 and as a coach in 2018.

Mbappe is tied with Deschamps in ninth place on the list of players who most represent France. Najm also became the French player who participated most in the World Cup with 19 matches, equal to his former teammate Antoine Griezmann.
