Danish police have confirmed that Swedish Christian Zedig, 32, is dead.
Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Minister of Foreign Affairs in Denmark, is now commenting on the death beating.
“My warmest thoughts go out to his family, friends and all of our Swedish brotherhood,” he writes on X.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Lars Løkke Rasmussen condemns the violence and now comments on the beating to death of Swedish Christian Zedig, 32.
It was in connection with a WC event at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen as Swedish police officer Christian Zedig was beaten so badly that he later died.
“Filled with sadness and anger that a young Swedish man has lost his life in Copenhagen during what was supposed to be a peaceful World Cup event. My warmest thoughts go out to his family, friends and all of our Swedish brotherhood. May the guilty be punished harshly and fairly,” writes Lars Løkke Rasmussen in a post on X.
The Danish police confirmed the death on Saturday evening.
“The Copenhagen police previously stated that the victim had been declared brain dead in the middle of the week, which was not true. He was declared brain dead by the doctors only on Friday afternoon. The Copenhagen police regrets the misunderstandings this may have caused,” they write in a post.
Since before, the Swedish authorities and Christian’s relatives have also confirmed his death.
A 31-year-old man has been detained in the case and the investigation is still ongoing.
The 31-year-old denies any wrongdoing.
The company that arranged the World Cup event in Islands Brygge where the gross assault occurred states that it is “deeply concerned” after the Danish police’s announcement of the death.
“Our thoughts go first and foremost to the victim’s relatives. Right now, our focus is on taking care of our employees and continuing the close cooperation with the authorities regarding security. We fully assist the police and the authorities in the ongoing investigation,” they write in a comment to Danish TV2.
As Aftonbladet previously reported, 19-year-old Oskar Persson from Nässjö started a fundraiser to support Christian’s wife and children.
– It feels great now that the collection has also gone so well, he told Aftonbladet yesterday.
At 10:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, the amount in Persson’s collection was over 1.2 million kroner.
