40 people were killed and 8 others were injured, Friday, as a result of a bus swerving and falling into a narrow, deep valley in southwestern Pakistan, according to what the authorities reported.
The spokesman for the local government of Balochistan, Shahid Rind, said that the bus driver lost control and fell into the valley between the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during a trip carrying passengers.
He pointed out that rescue workers are trying to determine the identities of the dead and treating the injured.

The bus heading to Islamabad was coming from the city of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, and carrying 48 passengers.
Rind added that the bus was not only carrying its own passengers, but was also carrying passengers from another bus that had broken down, making the bus crowded.
A police official said that excessive speed was a possible cause of the accident, but the investigation will determine the exact reason behind the fatal accident.

In turn, Rescue Department spokesman Fadel Din said that rescue officials used cutting tools and machines to extract the bodies and injured people from the bus, as the fall led to the crushing of the vehicle’s structure.
In a statement, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti expressed his regret over the deaths and ordered the authorities to ensure that those injured receive the best possible medical care.
Road accidents are common in Pakistan, due to poor condition of roads, disregard for traffic laws and unsafe driving practices, especially in mountainous areas.
