The German Foreign Ministry on Thursday summoned the Chinese ambassador to Berlin, against the backdrop of reports about what was said to be Beijing training Russian army soldiers on its territory.
This step came after the revelation of press reports indicating the existence of European intelligence documents indicating that hundreds of Russian soldiers were secretly trained by the Chinese army, confirming that some of these soldiers had already been deployed in combat zones inside Ukraine.
In the context of its comment on these reports, which it described as “very disturbing,” the German Foreign Ministry stressed that any support for Russia in its war on Ukraine is a direct threat to German and European national security.
A spokesman for the ministry stressed that “everything that allows Russia to continue its aggressive war against Ukraine represents a threat to our security,” noting that the support that Chinese government and military bodies are allegedly providing to Moscow directly reflects on the stability of the continent.

On the other hand, although there was no direct comment from the Chinese embassy about the recent summons, Beijing had previously denied these allegations on previous occasions, describing them as “unfounded.”
Earlier, two European officials revealed that secret military exercises conducted by China for Russian forces last year were conducted with the personal approval of the Russian Defense Minister, and witnessed the direct participation of at least 4 generals from both sides.
The officials noted that “the involvement of high-level figures in war-related exercises in Ukraine reflects the great importance of this cooperation for Moscow and Beijing,” something that has raised widespread European concerns, despite Beijing’s repeated denials of the veracity of these reports.
