Stockholm – Dozens of activists in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, led by doctors, demonstrated in solidarity with the Palestinian doctor detained in Israeli occupation prisons, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya (53 years old).
The phrases “Freedom, freedom… Hossam Abu Safiya” and “Freedom for Palestine” echoed in the throats of the demonstrators who gathered in front of Karolinska Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the Swedish capital Stockholm. They also chanted in support of Palestine and the boycott of Israel.
The demonstrators carried the Palestinian flag and banners bearing a picture of Doctor Abu Safiya and others with phrases written on them denouncing the Israeli occupation’s violations against him, demanding his release.
The Israeli army forces arrested Hussam Abu Safiya on December 27, 2024 during the storming of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, at a time when the medical facility was continuing its work amid war conditions.
Since his arrest, Abu Safiya’s appearances have been few, as various sources and freed prisoners who met him confirmed that he was subjected to isolation and severe torture in the occupation prisons.
Abu Safiya’s eldest son, Elias, stated that his father appeared during his trial session before the Israeli Supreme Court at the beginning of last June, handcuffed and tied, hands and feet, and in a difficult and deteriorating health condition.
