In a quiet corner of a café in the Syrian capital, Damascus, near the Palace of Justice, lawyer Eid Awad Muhammad was bent over his papers, reviewing his work. He was like any Syrian father carrying the worries of his family, thinking about the details of his day and how he would manage his daughters’ school fees, before a treacherous shrapnel overtook him that ended his life in an instant.
Yesterday’s incident was not just a passing bombing, but rather a tragedy that snatched a family support, and broke the hearts of the Syrians who saw his last session as a reflection of their extended daily suffering.

Official and union condemnation
At the official level, the Syrian Arab Republic condemned in the strongest terms this heinous terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 9 civilians and injured others. Damascus stressed in its statement yesterday, Thursday, that this cowardly act will not deter it from continuing its efforts to protect citizens, establish security and stability in the country, eliminate terrorism, and dry up its sources.
In the same context, the Kenitra Bar Association mourned her loss with great sadness and condolences, expressing its sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of lawyer Eid Awad Muhammad.
Family tragedy
Lawyer Eid Muhammad comes from the village of Al-Hajja in the Quneitra countryside, and according to local press reports and what activists circulated on platforms, his passing represents a severe family tragedy, as circulating stories indicate that he was the sole breadwinner and mainstay for six girls who depended entirely on him under difficult living conditions, while his only son resides in a foreign country.
Bloggers, including Abdel Qader Ghala, emphasized this tragic aspect in their blog posts, noting that the martyr was the only support for his family, despite the impossibility of independently verifying the accuracy of all the family details that filled personal accounts.
Arab sympathy
The image of the lawyer drowning in his own blood on his papers sparked a wide wave of sympathy and sadness across social media platforms, and in response to the scene, lawyer Tariq Shandab mourned his colleague with poignant words, considering that he bent over his papers in fulfillment of his message, and that terrorism chose to silence a voice that carried nothing but the law.
In a related context, Imad Al-Turkmani shared a video clip, pointing out that the victim was keen on seeking knowledge and regularly attended mosques, and that he left while carrying out his mission in the service of justice.
The interaction was not limited to professional lamentation, but rather extended to touch on common human pain. Bloggers such as Muhammad Ali and Ibrahim Al-Zaydan expressed their intense pain over the circulating image, describing it as heartbreaking, and stressing that the lawyer’s appearance resembles the condition of every Syrian father who is thinking about managing his family’s livelihood.
On the other hand, Palestinian activist Tamer Qudeih compared the scenes coming from Damascus to what is happening in Gaza, considering that the details of the targeting are very similar to the bombing of cafes in the Gaza Strip, directing his accusations at the Israeli occupation of being behind these operations.
Despite the diverse angles of interaction, the popular consensus reflected a state of shock and anger towards the targeting of innocent civilians in their livelihood and moments of comfort.
Initial investigations revealed that the improvised explosive device, planted inside the café, exploded in a lively and crowded area that includes sensitive landmarks such as the Palace of Justice, the Hamidiyeh Market, and the Damascus Citadel, causing a state of panic and causing limited damage to the café, with heavy human losses due to the crowding.
