A participant in the British “Married at first sight UK” has been arrested on suspicion of rape, the BBC reports.
The arrest comes after the BBC reviewed the programme.
The suspected participant has not been named, and the suspected plaintiff is subject to statutory anonymity, states BBC.
The arrest comes after a high-profile episode of the BBC documentary “Panorama” in May, where two female participants told that they were raped during the filming. A third woman accused a male participant of a non-consensual sexual act. The named men have denied all charges.
Released on bail
After the program, London’s Metropolitan Police urged anyone who participated in “Married at first sight UK” and feels exposed to sexual abuse to get in touch.
In a new statement to the BBC, the police say that the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation and that the man has now been released on bail while the investigation continues.
Episode was taken down
The channel Channel 4 has added an external review of how the participants are taken care of. All episodes of “Married at first sight UK” were pulled from the streaming service shortly before the “Panorama” review aired, and no one has yet decided whether to air the already-recorded new season. The production company CPL has, via its lawyers, previously described its security system for participants as industry leading, writes the BBC.
