In an exceptional step that reflects the scale of the event, the Governor of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, Samuel Garcia, decided to suspend studies and administrative activities next Monday, coinciding with the expected confrontation between the Moroccan and Dutch teams in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
The decision comes based on estimates by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), which indicate the arrival of about 20,000 Dutch fans from Kansas City, along with thousands of Moroccan and local fans, which heralds unprecedented traffic congestion in the city of Monterrey.

The suspension of activities includes all public and private educational institutions, as well as government departments, with the exception of vital sectors that will continue their normal work. The governor also called on private sector companies to adopt flexible solutions, such as working remotely or adjusting working hours, to relieve pressure on roads and enable employees to follow the match without affecting the workflow.

The confrontation between the “Atlas Lions” and the “Dutch Windmills” is considered one of the most prominent matches in the round of 16, in light of the remarkable level presented by the two teams during the group stage and their ambition to continue the journey towards the advanced stages.
Monterrey Stadium is expected to host the match on Monday, June 29, after witnessing a large crowd attendance in three group stage matches, including the Tunisian national team’s matches against Sweden and Japan, amid expectations of an exceptional atmosphere inside and outside the stands.
