Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 44, an Inter supporter?

The greatest ever, if you ask Marco Materazzi, 52.

It is in the Gazzetta dello Sports World Cup podcast “La Tripletta Mondiale” that Materazzi receives a listener question about his rivalry with the Swede during his playing career.

– For me, it was just something that existed out on the field. I don’t know what it was like for him. I can’t really say anything about him, because with what he’s doing right now, he’s the biggest Inter supporter in history, says Materazzi.

Ibrahimovic is an adviser to Milan owner Gerry Cardinale. Last season was tough.

After fifth place in Serie A, which meant missed Champions League play, was done a major cleaning in Milan’s club management and there is still no new sporting director in place.

At the same time, arch-rivals Inter took home the league title by far.

Were teammates at Inter

The dispute between Materazzi and Ibrahimovic is based, among other things, on 2009 when the centre-back and the forward were teammates at Inter. The Swede was on the lookout for a move to Barcelona and eventually left in exchange for Samuel Eto’o.

The following year, Inter won the treble after knocking out Zlatan’s Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

– Eto’o always gave his all for the team. What mattered to him was lifting trophies. For that reason, I will forever be grateful to Ibrahimovic, because he moved to Barcelona and allowed us to get Eto’o, said Materazzi.

Materazzi and Ibrahimovic also fought several battles against each other when the Swede played for Juventus and Milan.

Ibrahimovic is currently featured as an expert on American Fox during the World Cup. The Swede played for Inter 2006–2009, but is more associated with his stays in Milan.

Marco Materazzi played for Inter from 2001 to 2011 and won the World Cup with Italy in 2006. The centre-back scored in the final against France and took Zinedine Zidane’s skull in the chest in extra time.
