Canadian national football team coach Jesse Marsh confirmed that his player Ismail Kony suffered a broken leg during the match that ended with Canada’s victory over Qatar 6-0 in the second group.
This injury, which Kony suffered in the 55th minute following an intervention by Qatari Assem Madibo, was a strong blow to the team after topping the group.

Marsh told the media: “We heard the sound of the break from the bench. Everyone is shocked, given that he is a mainstay in the team.”
Marsh praised the resilience of his player, who tried to reassure his teammates and the audience during his exit despite his severe pain.
Marsh revealed that Madibo visited Canada’s dressing room and apologized to the player, stressing that he did not see intentional harm, but rather attributed it to the pressure of the match and the Qatari team’s desire to avoid defeat in order to maintain its hopes of qualifying.
On the technical level, Marsh celebrated the victory, as it was Canada’s first victory in the history of the World Cup Finals. Canada currently occupies the lead in Group B on goal difference over Switzerland, awaiting the decisive confrontation between them on June 24.
Marsh confirmed that his team will seek to avoid defeat in the last match against Switzerland to ensure top spot in the group, which gives them the advantage of playing the next match on their home turf in Vancouver.
On the other hand, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the injury will keep Kony out of action for between 4 and 5 months.
