Parastoo Ahmadi performed without a veil

The Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi is sentenced to 74 lashes for performing without a veil during a live concert, the BBC reports.
Ahmadi is sentenced along with eight other musicians to the whipping, as well as a two-year travel ban and a two-year ban on artistic activities, according to the Persian BBC.
According to the court, they have “violated public decency by producing and publishing vulgar and immoral content in cyberspace”.
It was in December 2024 that Ahmadi was arrested after she streamed a concert via YouTube where she performed without the obligatory veil. She was released on bail after a couple of weeks.
IN Iran it is forbidden for women to show their hair in public and to sing and dance solo in front of an audience of both men and women.
