Fire in an oil refinery

In southern Russia, authorities said that Ukrainian drones targeted the Tuapse oil refinery on the Black Sea coast on Tuesday, causing a fire to break out at the site.

The authorities explained that the Rosneft refinery had been subjected to previous attacks by drones during the past weeks, which resulted in an oil leak into the sea, in addition to a fire that took days to put out.

The annual production capacity of the Tuapse refinery is about 12 million metric tons, equivalent to approximately 240 thousand barrels per day, and the refinery produces a group of oil derivatives, including naphtha, diesel, and fuel oil.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that air defenses shot down 186 Ukrainian drones overnight over several provinces, including Astrakhan, Volgograd, Rostov, Kursk, and Crimea, in addition to the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, and indicated that they destroyed more than 2,700 drones during the past week.

Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russia since last March, after US-brokered peace talks faltered, and Washington’s focus shifted towards the Iranian file.
