For the first time, the county administrative boards in southern and central Sweden are given the right to decide on the license hunting of wolves for a period of three years.
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency can delegate decision-making rights to county administrative boards in those of Sweden’s three so-called predator management areas where the number of wolves exceeds the species’ minimum level.
It now does so in the southern and middle areas and the right is therefore transferred to all county administrative boards there, except in Gotland county where there are no wolves.
For the first time, the right is now granted for as long as three years. This is to give the county administrations “clarity and predictability” in wolf management, writes the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
In the northern administrative area, no minimum levels are established for wolves. There, therefore, the requirements to be able to submit license hunting decisions are not met, according to the agency.
