Taiz- Yesterday, Thursday, the first trial sessions were held in the city of Taiz – southwestern Yemen – in the case of the assassination of the director of the Cleaning and Improvement Fund in the city, Efthan Muhammad Al-Mashahri.
Her brother Zaid Al-Mashahri said – in a special statement to Al Jazeera Net – that the Specialized Criminal Court in Taiz Governorate began examining the case, in the presence of the president of the court and a member of the Specialized Criminal Prosecution.
He added that the session witnessed the initiation of legal procedures, starting with opening the minutes of the session, calling the names of the accused, and granting them the right to hire lawyers to defend them.
According to her brother, the defendants present were confronted with the indictment issued by the Specialized Criminal Prosecution, which includes a list of the charges against them.
Al-Mashahri confirmed – to Al-Jazeera Net – that the court “gave the defendants the opportunity to give their statements and respond to what was stated in the indictment,” within the framework of the legal guarantees guaranteed to them, and the court also heard the initial procedural defenses presented.
Completing legal procedures
At the conclusion of the session, the court issued a decision to bring the accused fugitives from justice to complete the legal procedures, ensuring the proper conduct of the trial and achieving justice, and setting a date for a subsequent session to continue examining the case, in accordance with applicable principles and procedures.
Efthan Al-Mashahri (45 years old) was assassinated on Thursday morning, September 18, 2025, after being exposed to about 20 gunshots that penetrated her head while she was driving her car in central Taiz.
This crime was met with widespread condemnation from the Presidential Command Council, the internationally recognized government, and the Ansar Allah group (Houthis), in addition to political parties, unions, and human rights organizations.
Days after the assassination, specifically on September 24, 2025, the Yemeni police in Taiz announced the killing of the main accused in the crime, Muhammad Sadiq Al-Mikhlafi, while resisting a security campaign in the Kalaba area, east of the city.
