Dortmund achieved its 600th victory at home throughout its career in the German League, in its 1,000th match at home.
German Maximilian Pierre opened the scoring early for Dortmund in the eighth minute, after following up on a decisive pass from Bensebaini, while Guinean striker Serho Geraci added the second goal for the hosts in the 14th minute.
Bensbaini continued his brilliance in the match, which was held at Signal Iduna Park, after scoring the third goal for Dortmund in the 32nd minute, while Portuguese Fabio Silva ensured the fourth goal for the hosts in the 87th minute.
This loss constitutes a painful blow to the hopes of Freiburg, which seeks to be in one of the qualifying positions for European competitions next season, and it also doubled the suffering of the team, which recently bid farewell to the German Cup, following its 1-2 loss to Stuttgart in the semi-finals of the competition.
Dortmund’s tally, which returned to winning ways after losing to Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim in the last two stages, rose to 67 points in second place, 10 points ahead of Hoffenheim, in fifth place, with only 3 stages remaining until the end of the season, thus officially ensuring its promotion to the league.
Champions next season.
On the other hand, Freiburg’s tally, which received its 12 losses compared to 12 wins and 7 draws in its journey in the competition this season so far, stopped at 43 points in eighth place, and is now required to quickly regain its balance before its expected meeting with its host Sporting Braga of Portugal, next Thursday, in the first leg of the semi-finals of the European League Championship.
Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer told the DAZN website after the match: “We had never lost two games in a row before, and we aspired to make amends, and we have already done that. There is no great pressure, but our ambition is to finish the season in second place.”
