HOUSTON. A – contribution in the WC premiere.
Nevertheless, Graham Potter dares to promise that Alexander Isak will only get better in the WC.
– There will be more, says the union captain.
Alexander Isak was best on the pitch in the World Cup opener against Tunisia. The striker scored one goal and was involved in three more in the 5-1 victory. His effort was rewarded with by Sportbladet.
But Graham Potter is convinced that there is a lot left to get out of the world star in this World Cup as he had a messy season with both broken legs and muscle injuries and had not started a game with Liverpool before joining the World Cup squad.
– Alex has had a difficult season. Most players need time and matches to reach their absolute top level. So we’ve tried to build Alex up now, says Potter ahead of the match against the Netherlands.
“Playing with a smile on my face”
Potter is thus trying to play Isak in top form in the middle of the WC.
– There will be more from him. He is not at his absolute best. But with the qualities he possesses and the type of player he is, of course he still makes a difference in the matches,
Upcoming opponents, the Netherlands to begin with, thus have every reason to fear a rising form curve for the 26-year-old.
– I think he will get better and better the longer the WC goes on. That’s what we’re trying to do now, to help him get better and better, stronger and stronger and if we get that he’ll be fantastic because he’s enjoying his football already and playing with a smile on his face, says the Swedish national team captain.
