At Malmö IP, spontaneous football is hampered by code locks and high fences.

That makes former youth coach Peter Kisfaludy react.

– It’s a disaster! Let the children play, he says.

Peter Kisfaludy, 59, who now works as a scout for the agent company Nordic Sky, has a long experience of working as a youth coach and player developer. Above all, Kisfaludy has been active in BP – where, among other things, he has been involved in bringing out Swedish national team stars such as Dejan Kulusevski, 26, and Lucas Bergvall, 20.

But the commitment to youth football does not stop at academy games and great talents. Kisfaludy is also passionate about children’s opportunity for spontaneous football, which is why he reacted strongly when he visited Malmö this week.

Want to see open gates

In a clip on Instagram, Peter Kisfaludy filmed an empty artificial turf field at Malmö IP, surrounded by gates with code locks and high fences.

– So the children are not allowed to play football inside, it’s the worst thing I’ve seen, says Kisfaludy in the clip.

For Sportbladet, he develops his feelings.

– It is clear that you react, it is a disaster. If there is something our children need, it is a leisure activity. I think that all sports grounds should be open, especially during the summer. Spontaneous sports are incredibly important, let the children play.

Kisfaludy lists three reasons why it is important that football fields and sports fields are easily accessible to young people.

– Partly the social aspect, keeping children away from mischief and letting them get active. In addition, I think it is very important from a health point of view. And besides, I think it benefits Swedish football and sports.

Therefore it was closed

Malin Eggertz Forsmark is head of department at the leisure administration in Malmö city and shares the opinion that it is sad to see unused plans locked away.

– The reason why it has been like this at Malmö IP is because we have had problems with young people who play spontaneous football, and then don’t move when teams arrive that have booked the pitch, she says.

– But now they should have opened the gates again so that it is available for spontaneous play when it is not booked. This is also the case on most artificial grass pitches in the city, with a few exceptions. Of course, we also want children and young people on the move, but it must also work for those who book.

And the sign that says the plan is only for booked associations?

– We must write it correctly, says Eggertz Forsmark.
