Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, will quit Portugal’s national team, according to his sister.

Kátia Aveiro, 48, says the World Cup is his “last dance”.

– I no longer make decisions out of emotion, Ronaldo replies.

During the night towards Friday, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty goal when Portugal defeated Croatia 2–1 and went on to the round of 16 in the WC.

This means that the national team career continues for a while longer.

Before Portugal’s round of 16 final against Croatia, Ronaldo’s sister Kátia Aveiro was interviewed by the Portuguese TV channel Sport. She then talked about Ronaldo’s future in the national team.

– I think this is the farewell. I mean the national team. According to a reliable source, the WC is his last dance, says Aveiro.

Ronaldo denies

Ronaldo himself played down his sister’s words after Portugal’s victory against Croatia.

– Continue to support the national team just as you have done so far and take one game at a time. Cristiano’s future is not the most important thing right now, says Ronaldo according to O Jogo.

He continues:

– I will talk to my family and then make a decision. I no longer make decisions on impulse. Now it’s about resting and preparing for the next match.

Contract until summer 2027

Ronaldo has a contract with his Saudi club team Al-Nassr for another season.

He is the footballer who has played the most international matches – 232 – including all national teams. He has scored 146 goals.

Portugal meets rival Spain in the Round of 16 in the World Cup. The match will be played at 21:00 on Monday evening.
