The United States has deported its first migrant to the sparsely populated Pacific island nation of Palau.
The Trump administration has previously proposed – and to some extent carried out – so-called relocations of undocumented migrants to third countries such as Uganda, El Salvador and Rwanda, which has created debate.
Now the island nation of Palau – with a population of around 20,000 people – has also received its first migrant, following an agreement with the United States that was signed in December.
Palau is one of the countries in the world with the lowest number of inhabitants.
