Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit admitted that the Moroccan national team was superior to the Dutch team in the match that brought them together for the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
The Moroccans won on penalties, 3-2, after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the match on the BeIN Sports channel and before heading to the penalty shootout, Gullit said: “Sometimes you have to win the match ugly,” referring to the performance presented by Dutch coach Ronald Koeman’s squad during the match.
He added: “Honestly, Morocco outperformed us in that match, but we hope that the goalkeeper (Verbruchen) will be on time.”
Verbruchen succeeded in blocking two of the five kicks carried out by the Moroccan team (both of which hit the post), while Yassine Bounou blocked three balls, one of which was blocked by his hand, one of which hit the post, and another of which went sideways.
