Senegalese photographer Sidi Tala documented a video clip on his Instagram account, in which he showed an unconventional way to follow the Senegal national team’s match against Iraq, which was held in the Canadian city of Toronto.
Tala appeared following the course of the match on television from inside his room, wearing a photographer’s jacket approved by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), and carrying his camera, before he began taking pictures of the players directly from the screen, in a scene that mirrored a simulation of his work on the field despite his actual absence from it.
After the end of the match, Tala published the photos he took during the match, commenting: “On or off the field, the passion remains pure.”
The story of the Senegalese photographer quickly turned into one of the most circulated stories on social media, as it received widespread interaction, and many considered it a living example that true passion is not limited by distance, nor is it hindered by restrictions, nor even travel and visa procedures, but rather finds its way in the simplest and least expected circumstances.

Many also expressed widespread sympathy for the shot that combined creativity and simplicity, and considered it a different model for interacting with sporting events outside the traditional context of field coverage.
Bloggers described the scene as a poignant moment, as the official photographer for the Senegal national team caught attention in an unexpected way, after he appeared taking pictures of Senegal’s match against Iraq from inside his room in a hotel in the United States, after the Canadian authorities refused to grant him an entry visa, despite being part of the official media crew for the national team.
Tweeters pointed out that preventing him from traveling with his country’s national team delegation did not stop him from performing his work, as he continued to document the match from behind the screen, while others explained that the decision to refuse the visa was not limited to him alone, but also included the team’s account manager on social media sites, while videographer Elias Bames was allowed to travel with the delegation due to him holding a French passport.
They added that Sidi Tala refused to let his absence be the end of the story, so instead of surrendering, he stayed in the hotel inside the United States, turned on the television screen, and then used his camera to take pictures of the match directly from the broadcast, in a scene that reflected his insistence on continuing his work despite the restrictions.
Others praised the level of professionalism shown in the photos, even though they were taken from a screen inside a hotel room, considering that they embody an exceptional passion and desire to document the team’s journey, regardless of the circumstances.
According to Senegalese media, Sidi Talla, along with the director of relations for the Senegalese national team, failed to travel to Canada after their entry visa applications were rejected, while videographer Elias Bames, who holds a French passport, was able to travel with the national team delegation.
