Ten years.
And a new game as recently as last week.
But in seven months Nintendo will stop selling the hit console Switch 1 in Europe.
Nintendo will stop selling the Switch 1 in Europe starting mid-February next year.
The decision applies to Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED and comes at the same time as new EU regulations force electronic product models where the battery can be replaced, something that includes, among others, Switch. However, it has not been officially communicated that the phase-out is due to the new rules.
However, the Switch 1 still has a huge game library and as recently as last week Nintendo’s “Rhythm heaven grove” was released to the console and several big games have been released during the year that Switch 2 existed“Pokémon Legends: ZA”, “Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream” and “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” among many others, unsurprising as 155.92 million Switch 1s were sold in its ten years of existence.
“Nintendo Switch has an extensive game library that continues to grow, and Nintendo Switch owners can continue to enjoy all of their existing Nintendo games and accessories, and the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Switch Online and other services will all continue for the foreseeable future,” Nintendo writes on its FAQ page.
