The US states that China’s “rapid” build-up of nuclear weapons is cause for “great concern”. The statement comes after China launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from a nuclear-powered submarine.
“When the United States is working harder than ever to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, China is doing just the opposite,” claims Tommy Pigott, spokesperson for the US State Department.
The launch was described by China’s navy as successful. The robot must have the capacity to carry nuclear weapons, but during the test firing the warhead was a dummy.
