At least 10 people were killed today, Monday, in a Russian bombing targeting the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, where dozens of explosions were heard at dawn, while Ukraine – recently – intensified its attacks with long-range drones inside Russia, targeting energy infrastructure and military targets.
The head of the military administration in Kiev, Timur Tkachenko, said via the Telegram application that 9 people were killed and 46 others were injured in a Russian attack targeting the capital.
At least one person was also killed in the Bucha district, located on the outskirts of Kiev, according to the head of the regional military administration, Mykola Kalachnik, who accused Moscow of “deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure again.”
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense said, in a statement, that it had launched a “large-scale strike” against Ukraine, in response to what it said were “terrorist attacks carried out by the Kiev regime against civilian infrastructure within Russian territory.”
The ministry added that Russian forces targeted “facilities belonging to the military industrial complex and facilities of the energy and oil sectors in the city of Kiev and its surroundings, in addition to the infrastructure of military airports in Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Kiev.”

Extensive damage
For its part, Ukrainian emergency services reported that at least 15 residential buildings were damaged in Kiev, including a 9-storey building in the Podilsky district, where rescue teams were searching for people among the rubble, in addition to a damaged warehouse in the Obolonsky district.
Early Monday morning, Ukrainian officials said that Kiev was subjected to a Russian missile attack that resulted in deaths, amid the possibility of residents being trapped under the rubble of a damaged building.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on the Telegram application that a residential building was bombed in the historic Budil neighborhood, adding: “There are people trapped on the seventh to ninth floors.” Debris from drones also fell in other neighborhoods, indicating that the army had activated air defenses, and urged residents to stay in shelters.
Yesterday, Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about intelligence information indicating that Russia was preparing to launch a major attack on his country.
Attack on Sevastopol
On the other hand, Ukraine has also intensified – in recent weeks – its long-range drone attacks inside Russia, targeting energy infrastructure and military targets.
On Monday, a Ukrainian attack led to a power outage in the city of Sevastopol, located in the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia, according to Mikhail Razvogayev, the city’s governor appointed by Moscow.
“Following an attack by the enemy on the energy infrastructure near Sevastopol, electricity was temporarily cut off in our city,” Razvogayev wrote on the Telegram application.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that Ukraine refused to stop bombing the town of Kostyantinivka in the east of the country to allow Moscow to hand over the bodies of dead Ukrainian soldiers.
Last Friday, Russian military commanders informed President Vladimir Putin that Moscow forces had taken control of Kostyantinivka, but Kiev denied this, saying that its forces still controlled the town.
Kostyantinivka is a strategic area that Moscow has long sought to control as part of its attacks on the Donetsk region.

Faltering negotiations
These field developments come at a time when negotiations aimed at ending the bloodiest conflict in Europe since World War II are still at a standstill.
US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet his Ukrainian counterpart, Zelensky, on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
A senior American official said, “It is clear that President Trump will meet Zelensky to discuss ways to end the war, as this is a priority that has always been important to him.”
Zelensky said on Saturday, “There is a real possibility of ending this war, and the resolve of the United States is decisive in this regard.”
According to diplomatic sources, European NATO member states, along with Canada, are expected to pledge military aid to Ukraine worth 70 billion euros (about 79.8 billion US dollars) for the years 2026 and 2027.
