MOVIE REVIEW. Robin Hood, the hero who took from the rich and gave to the poor.
Or?
“The death of Robin Hood” paints a darker portrait.
ACTION DRAMA Darkness. The drama opens with frost-bitten landscapes in 1257. The color scale moves between grey, brown and black, sometimes illuminated by fire. A harsh world with harsh people. Like a brooding Western or Viking saga.
A young hiker meets an aged scarred man who says that the stories of Robin Hood are fairy tales and lies. Robin Hood was not a hero who gave to the poor. He has been a cruel bandit who robbed and killed, and now many are waiting for revenge on the white-haired man. Which is still awesome.
Cut throats
Of his gang, only Little John remains, who seeks out his old leader for help. The opening is bloody and brutal; crushed skulls, arrows through eyes, throats cut.
After a third of the film, some daylight and calm enter the film. The injured Robin Hood is cared for in a convent by Sister Brigid, dressed in blue. The fleeing archer is forced to brood over everyone he’s killed over the years.
Slow in the reply
Fantastic photo of Pat Scolawho also photographed the director Michael Sarnoskis “pig”. The Northern Irish mountains and moors are captured in powerful images.
Hugh Jackman is good as the grim title character, and Bill Skarsgård impresses as Little John with a thick Northern English dialect. Slow in response, but quick in violence. Jodie Comer portrays the split of the nun on the island.
Strong contrasts, about the gray scales between good and bad, truth and poetry. Heroes exist only in fairy tales, the blood drips relentlessly.
The film premieres in cinemas.
