The Swedish Transport Administration gives SJ the task of continuing to operate the night train service to upper Norrland until 2028, according to a press release.
“The night train service to and from northern Sweden and Norway has an important function for both Swedish and international travelers. Demand is very high, and increasing,” says SJ:’s CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in a statement.
The assignment ensures daily round trips for the routes Stockholm–Narvik and Stockholm–Umeå with the possibility of sleeping and sleeping cars without changes.
SJ has run the night trains since December 2024, before that Norwegian Vy Tåg had the contract for the routes.
