Mexico, one of the three host countries for the 2026 World Cup, achieved the full mark in Group A with a third successive victory, which came at the expense of the Czechs 3-0 on Wednesday in Mexico City.
Mexico became the first team to score 9 full points in the current tournament, while the Czech Republic was eliminated after finishing last in the group with just one point.

Perfect record
Mexico finished the group stage of the World Cup with a perfect record for the first time in its history (3 victories in 3 matches).
This is the second time that the Mexican national team has kept a clean sheet in all three of its group stage matches in the tournament, having achieved this previously when it hosted the tournament in 1970.
At the age of 17 years and 253 days, Gilberto Moura became the youngest player to start a match for Mexico in a World Cup, and the youngest player to start any match in a World Cup since Femi Obabunmi (17 years and 101 days) with Nigeria against England in 2002.
This is the first time since 1986 that the Mexican national team has played 3 consecutive World Cup matches without conceding a goal, and it has never achieved a longer streak without conceding goals except in the period between 1966 and 1970 (4 matches).
Julián Quiñones is the first player to score more than one goal for Mexico in a single World Cup since Javier Hernández in 2010 (two goals).
Guillermo Ochoa became the oldest player to participate with Mexico in a World Cup match at the age of 40 years and 346 days, surpassing Rafa Marquez’s record against Brazil in 2018 (39 years and 139 days), and he is the seventh player aged 40 years or older to participate in the World Cup this year. It is noteworthy that only 7 players in their forties participated in the first 22 editions of the tournament.
Mateo Chavez is Mexico’s youngest scorer in a World Cup match (22 years and 41 days) since Javier Hernandez in 2010 against Argentina (22 years and 26 days).
While Alvaro Fidalgo is only the sixth player to score a goal as a substitute for Mexico in the World Cup, and the first since Javier Hernandez against Croatia in 2014. This goal was Fidalgo’s first with Mexico in his first ever appearance as a substitute with the national team.
The Czech national team exited the World Cup this year with only one point, which is the second time it collected less than two points in the group stage of the World Cup, after the 1970 edition (in the name of Czechoslovakia), which was also held in Mexico (0 points).
While Ladislav Krejci completed 135 successful passes during 3 matches for the Czech national team in this year’s World Cup. The only player to have completed more passes in the group stage for the Czech Republic in the tournament since 1966 is Karol Dobias (156 passes) in 1970.
