DALLAS. Sweden practices fixed situations with a group of leaders in the warm-up before the World Cup matches.
An unexpected move that attracted attention.
– It is partly about getting the players in the right position mentally, says Graham Potter.
It was before the playoff matches in March that Sweden suddenly started training in fixed situations, defensive ones, in the warm-up before the matches.
In front of the open curtain, then.
This has been continued before and during the WC.
The unusual move has attracted attention and been questioned by both Fredrik Ljungberg and Lars Lagerbäck in Viaplay’s broadcasts.
“Nice to feel them on the pitch”
But why do you do it?
– It is something that Andreas (Georgson responsible for fixed situations in the national team and Tottenham) introduced. In Tottenham, they do it as part of getting the players in the right position mentally. Sometimes the players have only seen the formations on the tactical board and then it can be nice to actually feel them out on the field, says Graham Potter.
So it’s not about you forgetting to practice it in training?
– Sure enough, fixed situations! I knew we’d forgotten something, Potter jokes in response.
