BOSTON. The rain is expected to pour down during England’s meeting with Ghana.
But the fluid breaks remain – which Thomas Tuchel is critical of.
– I think it interrupts and changes the identity of the football match much more than I thought, says the national team captain.
Thomas Tuchel understands that the breaks can be good at high temperatures.
However, England’s opener against Croatia was played under cover in Dallas (with air conditioning). And Wednesday’s weather forecast indicates that the rain jacket will probably be needed during the match against Ghana.
– Now the match is almost divided into four periods and I think it changes the character of the match more than I thought, says Tuchel.
– I like it as a coach, of course, to be able to influence and have my team together. But overall I like football more when it is played in one sweep, in one half.
“Difficult to build momentum”
The England captain believes that football matches need that flow.
– It is difficult to build momentum and it is difficult to maintain it. Then it becomes more like a battle on the pitch between the players and the teams, says Tuchel and adds:
– But from a fair point of view, it is of course logical that everyone gets it (fluid breaks).
Whether the suspensions will benefit Ghana more than England remains to be seen.
When a journalist tells us that the opponents are extra motivated to face Tuchel’s gang, the answer is:
– Bad news for Ghana. We will also be motivated.
Thing without pain
All English players took part in the last training session before the match. Including Bukayo Saka, who has been struggling with a heel injury.
– Bukayo is getting better and better. He is increasingly free in his movements and no longer feels any pain, Tuchel announces.
– He has been able to complete both of our training sessions in the last two days at the highest level, so he is ready to play… without me saying whether he will start or start on the bench.
The match between England and Ghana kicks off at 10pm, Swedish time.
