Today, Monday, Qatar and Pakistan announced the conclusion of the first round of high-level talks between the United States and Iran, which were held in the Bürgenstock resort in Switzerland within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed in Islamabad.
A joint Qatari-Pakistani statement said that the work of the first day of the Lake Lucerne summit took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere and resulted in encouraging progress, indicating the establishment of a mechanism to continue technical talks between the parties.
The statement explained that the parties agreed – based on the memorandum of understanding – to establish a high-level committee to undertake political supervision of mediation efforts, with the chief negotiators submitting periodic reports to it, in addition to their leading specialized working groups concerned with the nuclear file, sanctions, follow-up and dispute settlement, in a way that ensures the effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding, as well as discussing other related issues.

He added that the high-level committee agreed on a road map aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days, in preparation for the immediate start of a new round of technical talks.
The statement also indicated the establishment of a communication channel between the parties – during the period stipulated in the fifth paragraph of the Memorandum of Understanding – with the aim of avoiding accidents and misunderstandings, and ensuring the safe passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Regarding Lebanon, the two parties agreed to establish a working group to avoid escalation, which includes the two parties and the Lebanese Republic, and facilitated by mediators, to ensure commitment to stop military operations in the country, as stipulated in the memorandum of understanding.
According to the statement, the technical talks are scheduled to continue throughout the remainder of the week at the Bürgenstock Resort, to discuss all relevant issues.
In the statement, Qatar and Pakistan affirmed their continued efforts to ensure that negotiations continue in a constructive atmosphere to reach a final agreement, expressing their appreciation to the United States and Iran for their commitment to diplomatic solutions and their pursuit of a sound settlement of the conflict.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Qatari-Pakistani mediation efforts have resulted in significant progress towards ending the war in Lebanon.
Araqji added, in a post on the X platform, that the first real test is the Anti-Conflict Cell in Lebanon.
The Iranian Foreign Minister indicated that oil exports were exempted, the blockade was lifted, some frozen assets were immediately released, and a reconstruction plan was launched in Iran.
On June 15, the United States and Iran announced – with the Pakistani mediator – that they had reached an agreement on a memorandum of understanding to end the war, which Washington and Tel Aviv started against Tehran on February 28.
