The Dutch national football team has joined a unique list of national teams that have participated in the World Cup Finals since its first launch in 1930.
“The Windmills” achieved its second consecutive victory in the current edition, at the expense of its Swedish counterpart, with a score of 5-1, in the match that took place at Houston Stadium for the sixth group competitions.

The Dutch team raised its tally of World Cup goals to 103, becoming the eighth team to score 100 goals or more in the history of the World Cup, according to data shown by the official account of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) via the X platform.
The Brazilian and German teams currently top the list, and they are the only two teams in the world whose tally has exceeded 200 goals.
The defending champion, Argentina, comes in third place, far behind Brazil and Germany, followed by France and Italy – the most notable absentees from the 2026 World Cup – then Spain, England and the Netherlands.
The eight teams that scored more than 100 goals in the World Cup:
Netherlands (103 goals)
Before participating in the 2026 World Cup, the Netherlands national team had 96 goals scored by its players in 11 World Cup participations.
The Dutch scored two goals against Japan (2-2) in the first round of Group Six matches for the current edition, then added five against Sweden, bringing the total tally to 103 goals.
The Netherlands national team is seen as the uncrowned champion of the World Cup, because it reached the final three times, but was unable to achieve the title in any of them, in 1974, 1978 and 2010.
England (108 goals)
The Three Lions entered the 2026 World Cup strongly, defeating Croatia 4 times in the first round of Group Twelve, adding to the 104 goals they scored in 16 previous participations.
The England national team was able to win a single World Cup title, which it achieved in the edition hosted by the country in 1966, after winning the final at Wembley Stadium with a score of 4-2 over its German counterpart.
Spain (112 goals)
The La Roja team failed to score a single goal in its first match in the current edition of the World Cup against Cape Verde, before it exploded in the second round by scoring four goals against Saudi Arabia.
With this quartet, the Spanish national team raised its score to 112 goals, after its players throughout history scored 108 goals in 16 previous editions, and it has an opportunity to increase its score with at least two matches remaining in the current tournament.
The Spanish national team has previously won the World Cup once, in the edition hosted by South Africa in 2010, by defeating the Netherlands in the final with a single goal by former player Andres Iniesta.
Italy (128 goals)
The Azzurri’s tally has stopped at this number since the last goal scored by its player Mario Balotelli in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, which came against England in the match in which Italy won 2-1 in the first round of the fourth group matches.
Then, surprisingly, the Italians lost to Costa Rica and Uruguay in a row with the same score (1-0), leaving the World Cup in the first round. Then a shocking period of absence from the World Cup began, extending to three consecutive editions: Russia 2018, Qatar 2022, and the current one.
From 18 previous participations, Italy won the World Cup title on 4 occasions, in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006.
France (139 goals)
The “Roosters” reached the current edition with 136 goals in their possession from 16 previous participations, and they strengthened them with 3 more in their first match in the 2026 World Cup against Senegal in Group Nine.
The French have an opportunity to increase this tally with at least two matches remaining against Iraq and Norway, and it may increase if the team continues to compete for the title as the tournament progresses.
France won the World Cup title on two previous occasions, in 1998 and 2018, at the expense of Brazil and Croatia, respectively.
Argentina (155 goals)
Before the legendary star Lionel Messi’s hat-trick against Algeria in the first round of Group 10 matches, Argentina had scored 152 goals in 18 previous World Cup participations.
The chances of “Tango” in increasing these results appear to be very high after the draw placed it in an easy group, which includes, in addition to Algeria, the teams of Austria and Jordan, which are getting to know the atmosphere of the World Cup for the first time.
Historically, the Argentine national team has previously won the World Cup on 3 previous occasions, in 1978 and 1986, the last of which was 2022, which was hosted by Qatar.
Germany (241 goals)
The Germans started the 2026 World Cup strong, defeating a submerged Curacao 7 times, before scoring two more goals against Côte d’Ivoire in the team’s first two matches in Group E.
Thanks to the seven goals in Curacao, the German national team temporarily overtook the top spot among the teams with the most goals in the history of the World Cup from Brazil, which later regained it, until they became partners in it as of this writing.
The German national team won the World Cup 4 times out of its previous 20 participations, in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.
Brazil (241 goals)
The “Samba Dancers” are level with Germany after scoring 4 goals in the current edition, one in Morocco and 3 in Haiti in the third group.
The Brazilians are distinguished by being the only team that has not missed any World Cup in the history of the World Cup, in addition to holding the record for the number of times the tournament has been crowned with 5 times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.
