Morocco’s big star and team captain Achraf Hakimi, 27, was booed in the match against Scotland.
He is to be tried for rape.
It was over three years ago that right-back Achraf Hakimi was accused of raping a woman in Paris, where he plays for Paris Saint-Germain.
But it wasn’t until Friday that it became completely clear that Hakimi will be brought to justice.
The Court of Appeal in Versailles sent out a press release stating that there is sufficient evidence against Hakimi.
Hakimi booed
At midnight, Swedish time, Morocco’s World Cup match against Scotland started and the Scottish supporters were aware of the charges against Hakimi. Every time he had the ball, loud boos could be heard from the Boston Stadium stands.
Hakimi posted about the rape allegations on social media on Friday. He denies wrongdoing and claims he is looking forward to the trial.
“Today a story is being told that is not mine, at the expense of my family, my life and above all the truth. Sometimes it feels like I have become an easy target”writes Hakimi.
Goal in the second minute
Morocco won 1-0 against Scotland and have now most likely secured a place in the round of 16 ahead of the final group stage match against Haiti.
Ismael Saibari scored the only goal of the match after just over a minute of play. From a tight angle, he shot both high and hard, leaving Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn with no chance.
Ahead of the final group stage, Morocco has four points. Scotland, who will face Brazil, have three points.
