Finland’s Riksdag has voted in favor of an amendment to the law that allows nuclear weapons to be brought into the country, Finnish media reports.
The law abolishes the total ban on nuclear weapons on Finnish soil.
The proposal from the government meant that a section that has prohibited the importation, manufacture, possession and detonation of nuclear weapons charges is deleted. The justification was that the legal restriction prevents Finland from fully benefiting from the deterrent effect of nuclear weapons.
The government also proposes that Finland does not intend to place nuclear weapons on its territory in peacetime.
The votes fell on Wednesday, 125 to 61 with 13 members absent.
