DALLAS. SvFF is transparent with the women’s national team’s bonuses.

But when it comes to the men’s national team World Cup bonuses, the cap is on.

– I have assessed that we do not need to be transparent, says the new general secretary Niclas Carlnén.

Before the women’s EC last year, the Swedish Football Association went out on its own homepage and told how much the players would get in bonuses depending on how far they went in the tournament since the prize money from Uefa increased by 156 percent since the previous European Championship.

– Right now we are in a good place, but we want to go a little further. We are not satisfied with the distribution between men and women. There is a lot to do from both Fifa and UEFA, said national team manager Marika Domanski Lyfors.

But before the men’s World Cup, the association refuses to say anything about the players’ bonus agreement.

– We have a championship agreement where both the players and we are satisfied. We do not intend to comment on it at individual levels, says the Secretary General Niclas Carlnén.

“I have decided”

Why aren’t you transparent about it?

– Some things you choose to be transparent about and others not. You have to weigh the pros and cons. Here we were landed in not being transparent.

Isn’t there something to be gained from being transparent?

– There absolutely is. But there may also be something that makes you not want to be.

Is it the men’s players who don’t want it to be transparent?

– No, it is I who have decided that it should not be transparent.

But what is the difference with the ladies, where you chose to be transparent?

– I don’t know the whole history because I haven’t been here that long. But one part (in the transparency) with the ladies is that there has been a certain part that has been official from, for example, Uefa. In the master’s agreement, I have judged that we do not need to be transparent. I see no reason for that.

Can you name a negative aspect of being transparent?

– I could name several. But I don’t choose to do that, it’s the decision I’ve made.

Same basic agreement

It is no secret that the sums are much larger on the men’s side as you receive significantly more money from Fifa and UEFA when you qualify for a men’s championship.

– If the money had been the same, it would have been equal as I see it. But the prize money is not the same between men and women and therefore it will not be equivalent, says Carlnén.

For five years, the ladies and gentlemen have had the same basic agreement during gatherings and international matches, i.e. not championships. That agreement applies to “remuneration”, victory premiums and a share of the ticket revenue at the home international matches. There, the association is transparent.

– It is exactly the same because the conditions are the same there, says Carlnén.
