US President Donald Trump met with the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, today, Tuesday, in Evian, France, on the sidelines of the G7 summit, where the two sides reviewed developments in the Iranian agreement and regional files, especially Lebanon, in addition to Qatari mediation efforts. The following are the most prominent statements of the two leaders:
President Trump’s statements
Iranian issue:
Trump confirmed that his country concluded a fair and good agreement with Iran, stressing at the same time that Washington is not investing any money there.
He explained that the agreement is moving to a second stage, considering that the primary goal is to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon in any way.
He said that his signing of the memorandum of understanding was to ensure that Iran would not possess a nuclear weapon, warning that if Tehran sought to do so, hell would break loose on it.
He pointed out that Iran will not possess a nuclear weapon under the agreement, pointing out at the same time that there are good opportunities to deal with it. He also added, “If Obama’s comprehensive plan of action had not been cancelled, Iran might have possessed a nuclear weapon.”
Trump considered that Washington’s attempts to change the regime in Iran had not succeeded.

The Lebanese-Israeli issue:
Commenting on Israel’s rejection of Washington’s agreement with Iran, Trump described the war in Lebanon as secondary, compared to the importance he attaches to the nuclear agreement with Iran, which he believed could hold.
Trump indicated that he suggested to Israel that Syria take over the task of dealing with Hezbollah.
He confirmed that he informed Israel that he did not like its attack on Beirut, stressing that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is required to be more responsible towards Lebanon.
Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the way Israel dealt with Lebanon and Hezbollah, considering that this issue should have been addressed more quickly.
“Without him, there would be no Israel,” he said.
Country affairs and regional mediation:
President Trump welcomed the Qatari role in achieving a real breakthrough that led to the memorandum of understanding with Iran, stressing his respect for how Doha managed the recent crisis, and praising its courage.
Trump considered that cooperation with Qatar in its mediation to resolve the crisis in the region was an important and positive factor.

Statements of the Emir of the State of Qatar
For his part, the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, confirmed that the primary goal during the past period for Doha was to reach an agreement.
He explained that the focus during the past months was not on the economy, but rather on reaching an agreement, stressing his country’s readiness to provide assistance whenever friends request it.
The Emir of Qatar stressed that the agreement between Tehran and Washington is very important, noting that there is still work to be accomplished.
He expressed his optimism, saying, “If we continue these efforts, we will achieve something wonderful for the region and Iran.”
In another context, the Emir of the State of Qatar announced that the trade partnership with the United States will reach more than one trillion dollars.

“No Qatari money was paid”
In a related context, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Al-Ansari held a press conference in Doha, today, Tuesday, in which he reviewed his country’s position on the agreement to stop the war between Washington and Tehran, mediated by Pakistan.
Al-Ansari described the current agreement as a first step towards a broader regional consensus that guarantees the stability of the region, noting that the expected signing on Friday may represent the beginning of fruitful future negotiations.
He stressed that Qatar contributed to bringing viewpoints closer to reaching a settlement between Tehran and Washington, explaining that Doha worked to achieve consensus, ensure the return of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and the continuation of the ceasefire.
He pointed out that “no Qatari money was paid,” pointing out that there is global coordination to deal with the economic repercussions of the crisis.
Al-Ansari also expressed his country’s optimism that mediation between the United States and Iran will lead to ending the conflict and achieving stability.
Al-Ansari confirmed that Qatar is communicating with all parties within the framework of Pakistani mediation, explaining that meetings are being held within this framework, and there are currently no meetings in Doha between Washington and Tehran.
He added that the goal is to restore the state of regional peace and security as it was before the outbreak of war.
He also stressed the continuation of Qatari mediation to support the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and to seek full implementation of the agreement.
