Mohamed Wehbe, coach of the Moroccan national football team, dazzled the fans with his team’s samba dance in front of its Brazilian counterpart, embarrassing coach Carlo Ancelotti, at the beginning of their journey in the 2026 World Cup.
Analysts described the Moroccan team’s draw with its Brazilian counterpart with a goal each as a taste of victory, given the wonderful performance of the Atlas Lions.

Wehbe’s touch appeared during his team’s first match against Brazil, even though he took over coaching his country’s national team only 3 months ago. Who is he?
Beginnings
Mohamed Wehbe (49 years old) led the Moroccan youth national team to win the World Cup in Chile last year for the first time in its history, and he dreams of achieving the same achievement in the World Cup in 2026, armed with great experience and stars from the largest European teams.
Before this and that, trust in God and the satisfaction of parents is the secret of success and faith in work, not luck, as he put it in previous statements.
Wehbe trained the junior categories at the Belgian club Anderlecht’s training center for about 17 years before leading Moroccan youth to football glory in Chile.

Highest training certificate
He holds a UEFA Pro license, the highest coaching certificate in Europe, and this certificate is necessary for managing the major European Champions League and European League.
Although Wehbe had never played football like Walid Regragui, the former coach of the national team, he graduated in training all categories to gain experience in dealing with players of different ages.
Moroccan with a European heart and experience
Wehbe was born in 1976 in Brussels, and holds both Moroccan and Belgian citizenship. He comes from a Moroccan family from the city of Nador in northern Morocco that immigrated to Belgium since the 1970s.
Before entering the world of football, Wehbe was a teacher at Charles Boulos Elementary School, choosing to train younger groups, benefiting from his experience dealing with children.
He began his coaching career in 2003 at Anderlecht as a coach for the minor groups. He progressed to coaching the reserve team and then became an assistant coach in the first team of this club.
In the 2014-2015 season, his under-21 team reached the semi-finals of the European Youth League. He also served as assistant coach of Al-Fateh Saudi Club during 2020.

The rise of Wehbe’s star
After Wehbe took over as coach of the Moroccan under-20 national team in March 2022, he won the North African Championship in 2024, then reached the semi-finals of the North African Under-20 Championship in 2025, then won the World Cup in Chile last year for this category.
Wahbi’s upward trajectory qualified him to take charge of the first team last March, succeeding Walid Regragui, who led Morocco to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar.
Wehbe’s training methodology, known as “Mo”, is based on team play, intelligence and discipline, as well as rapid movement from defense to attack.
Continuous work
Wehbe’s statements are characterized by humility and rationality, and do not outdo or accuse the opponent.
He stated during the press conference before the Brazil match that he does not believe in luck in football, but rather in work and trust in God.
He also said about Brazil’s coach Ancelotti that he knows his secrets and has read all his books, before adding with a smile: Maybe that will give me an advantage.
The Moroccans have great ambitions in this tournament after the performance of their team in the Qatar World Cup in 2022, where it became the first Arab and African team to qualify for the semi-finals in the history of the tournament, achieving fourth place.
