Israel discusses the Iranian file… mounting concern about the course of negotiations between Washington and Tehran | news

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held security consultations with the cabinet and senior leaders of the security services, devoted to discussing developments in the Iranian file.

Israeli Channel 13 reported – citing political sources – that the consultations – yesterday evening, Thursday – dealt with the latest developments related to the ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, amid Israeli estimates that failure to reach an agreement soon may raise the possibility of military escalation in the coming weeks.

According to the sources, during recent days, these estimates were discussed in internal meetings, in light of intensive Israeli monitoring of the course of negotiations and military movements between the two sides.

Israeli Channel 12 also reported that Netanyahu ended the consultations after being informed of US President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel air strikes and bombing operations that were planned against Iran.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that Netanyahu held a phone call with Trump, in which the two sides discussed the memorandum of understanding under preparation between Washington and Tehran in preparation for entering into broader negotiations.

The statement explained that Netanyahu expressed – during the call – his appreciation for President Trump’s commitment that any final agreement include the removal of enriched uranium from Iran and the dismantling of enrichment facilities.

In addition to imposing restrictions on the Iranian missile program, and stopping Tehran’s support for armed factions in the region, including Hamas and Hezbollah, the statement indicated that Israel is not a party to the memorandum being prepared between Washington and Tehran.

On the other hand, it was reported that Tel Aviv was surprised by Trump’s announcement of canceling the planned strikes, and his indication of progress in the course of negotiations with Iran, while Israeli sources denied knowledge of the existence of a final agreement.

Trump had announced – through his “Truth Social” platform – the cancellation of planned military operations against Iran, indicating that preliminary understandings had been achieved with Tehran, without announcing additional details.

The Iranian nuclear program is one of the most prominent points of disagreement with the United States and Israel, as Tel Aviv considers it an existential threat to it, while Iran has issued repeated threats against the Hebrew state. On the other hand, the Iranian leadership confirms that it does not seek to possess nuclear weapons.

On the other hand, the International Atomic Energy Agency and a number of countries have expressed concern in recent years that Iran is increasingly close to possessing the ability to produce such weapons.
