Between the darkness of complete silence and the details of a precise medical profession that focuses on the smallest details, the young Jordanian Dhaifallah Al-Shawabkeh (25 years old) worked his way to transform from a child who lost his sense of hearing in his early years to a dentist who practices his profession efficiently.

It is not just a traditional graduation story, but rather a human epic in which the sacrifice of brothers and the stubbornness of parents met to break an old medical rule that ruled that sign language was this child’s only window to the world.

Dhaif Allah’s journey in studying dentistry was not strewn with roses, but rather was a daily test of patience and persistence in the face of bullying and ridicule at different stages of his life. With his complete reliance on lip reading to understand lectures and communicate with those around him, the young man encountered an unexpected obstacle during his school years; It is the Corona pandemic.

When the world wore masks, those small fabrics turned into additional cement walls that isolated Dhaif Allah from the lips of his professors and colleagues and prevented him from understanding them.

Despite the difficult situation and his fear of failure, the young doctor refused to give up and graduated, thanks to his will and determination, carrying his honorary degree.

Soulmate… Rond’s sacrifice in exile in Georgia

On this long journey, Dhifallah was not alone in facing silence; Rather, his twin sister, Rond, was the support and arm he relied on during exile, study, and daily life.

In a step that embodies the highest meanings of sisterhood, Ronde chose to change the course of her personal academic dream of studying general medicine, to accompany her brother to the Republic of Georgia and study dentistry with him.

Ronde would take off her mask to explain to him the lectures that were difficult to understand, and would give him hope whenever he felt tired and thought about not completing the road and returning to Jordan. Ronde recalls those moments, saying: “We learned to always tell God’s guest: You can do it and you can achieve it, and he actually arrived.”

Father’s bet…a battle against despair and frustration

Behind this success stands Salb’s father, Raed Al-Shawabkeh, who refused to submit to the first doctors’ diagnosis that his son would not speak and would only use sign language. The father recalled the poignant features of the beginning, saying: “All my dreams were hearing him say, ‘Mama and Papa,’ and nothing more than that.”

The father faced social pressure and frustrating comments from his surroundings that accused him of “wasting his money” on a child who could not hear, but he chose to continue supporting his child with everything he had. This journey culminated in tears of joy, fear, and fatigue in a graduation moment that the father described as “the greatest moment of his life.”

Today, Dr. Dhaif Allah Al-Shawabkeh stands in his clinic, wearing his stethoscope, treating the pain of his patients, surrounded by the appreciation of everyone around him, proving that determination is capable of penetrating silence.

Dhaif Allah concludes his speech with an inspiring message of hope for everyone facing similar circumstances, saying: “Disability is not the end of life. On the contrary, it can be the beginning of a different success story. I am proud of my condition, and I am proud that I raised the head of my family.”
