Marcia Lucas has died, the family confirms to People.

Together with ex-husband George Lucas, she was involved in the creation of the “Star Wars” universe.

“Marcia was a force,” the family said in a statement.

Marcia Lucas was co-editor of the classic “Star Wars” film – for which she won an Oscar – as well as “Return of the Jedi”.

Between the years 1969 and 1983, she was married to the filmmaker George Lucas.

“A true trailblazer for women in film and one of the most influential editors in film history, she helped redefine what film editing could be and paved the way for generations of women to follow,” the family said in a statement.

She also worked together with the director Martin Scorsese. Among other things in the films “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”, “Taxi Driver” and “New York, New York”.

Marcia Lucas turned 80.
