Al Jazeera Media Network expressed its deep concern for the safety of Al Jazeera News channel correspondent Hafez Meribeh and photographer Mahmoud Cagatay Yavuz, who were among the journalists accompanying the ships of the “Resilience Flotilla” that were intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters, late on Wednesday evening.
The network held the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the safety of the Al Jazeera crew. She called on the international community to take a unified stance to stop Israel’s repeated violations of international laws and conventions.
Al Jazeera renewed its commitment to freedom of the press, calling for the protection of all journalists and enabling them to perform their work freely.
Israeli forces had intercepted a number of ships participating in the “Resilience Fleet” off the coast of the Greek island of Crete, which led to a loss of communication with the Al Jazeera team and the journalists who were on board its ships.
