The USA will face Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Round of 16.

It prompted an ABC reporter to joke about it on air.

It was received like that.

Abigail Velez, reporter at ABC, was on air and talked about the round of 16 between the host nation USA and Bosnia-Herzegovina, which will be played at 02:00 on Thursday, Swedish time.

Before she left for the studio, she took the opportunity to fire up the atmosphere a little.

– I can’t point out Bosnia on a map. I know nothing about Bosnia and I don’t want to know. The USA National Team is back, better than ever. Get ready, Bosnia. YOU don’t want Bosnia, but you will get it, she says in the broadcast.

It got one Bosnian football account to spread the clip:

“My God, the stereotypes write themselves”writes the account.

Apologize

The clip has received almost ten million views and it has not gone unnoticed by Velez.

Now she poodles in a post on social media.

“In a failed attempt to make a bit of a joke during the World Cup, I went too far and made a thoughtless comment on live broadcast that was insensitive and inappropriate. I apologize to the people of Bosnia and the Bosnia national football team. The World Cup is about uniting people around the world, and my comment did not reflect that spirit. I wish all the teams the best of luck as they continue their journey in the World Cup.” she writes.
