DALLAS. Sweden’s warm-ups surprise Glenn Strömberg.

Now Blågult answers to speech.

– I saw that it made headlines, says Andreas Georgson.

Renowned specialist Andreas Georgson normally works for Tottenham, and has also been responsible for fixed situations at clubs such as Arsenal, Brentford and Manchester United.

Now he has it in Blue and Yellow.

One of the innovations is to allow the team to practice defensive set-pieces during the warm-up before the matches. A move that surprised several television experts. Fredrik Ljungberg and Lars Lagerbäck have previously been amazed at the innovation.

“Glenn might not be there then…”

Even Glenn Strömberg, expert at SVT, is surprised.

– I have seen a lot of tournaments and matches. I have never seen anyone do it the way Sweden does, he has previously said in SVT.

Andreas Georgson pulls his mouth shut when he hears about Strömberg’s surprise.

– Isn’t Glenn in the Premier League commenting? Isn’t he? There are some teams that have run the same thing there. But Glenn might not be there for the warm-up…

What do the players think?

During Saturday’s press conference, Georgson explained why Sweden works that way.

– I have seen some headlines about it. We spend a minute and a half on it, on the warm-up. It’s a psychological thing. “There will soon be balls flying in here”, so you get that feeling. “Now we have conceded two balls. We are ready for battle”. For fixed situations, a lot is about heart, fight and readiness to get a little hurt.

He says that the players are positive about the system.

– It is a psychological trigger. A rather small detail. We asked the players about it when we tested last fall. “Do you like it?” And the players did. But it is a very marginal thing.

Sweden has been strong in fixed situations since Georgson took over. Against Japan, it didn’t look quite as good, but he explains that by the fact that Isak Hien was injured and had to go out early.

– It was a little shakier than usual, but there were reasonable reasons. Isak is one of our two biggest threats offensively and perhaps the most important defensive player to defend defensive fast. He has a key role and it messed up when he went out.
