South Korea states that over ten Chinese and Russian warplanes have flown into the country’s air defense zone.

The South Korean Defense Staff says the incident happened on Saturday. The plane left the air defense zone shortly after, after South Korea sent up its own fighter jets.

An air defense zone is not the same as a country’s national airspace, but an area where that country controls and monitors aircraft.

China’s Ministry of Defense confirms that the air forces of China and Russia have conducted a “strategic air patrol” over the Sea of Japan. The statement made no mention of South Korea or the country’s air defense zone.
