The US military said it killed two men in a raid targeting a ship suspected of drug smuggling in the Caribbean Sea, while six others survived the shipwreck.

The US Southern Command (Southcom) said in a statement that the ship was “navigating along known drug trafficking routes in the Caribbean region.”

Southcom reported that there were “six survivors”, but did not provide any details about their condition or how they were rescued.

A black-and-white video clip shows a boat moving in the sea before a missile hits it, detonating a massive explosion.

This latest attack brings the death toll from US operations in the Caribbean to 206 since they were launched in September to combat the flow of drugs to the United States by sea.

The administration of US President Donald Trump did not provide conclusive evidence that the targeted boats were actually involved in the drug trade.

UN experts and officials condemned what they considered extrajudicial killings.
