Norway is ready for the round of 16 in the World Cup.

The players and staff celebrated with victory kisses.

“We’re going to wake the king!” chanted the fans outside Slottsplatsen in Oslo.

On the night of Tuesday, Norway defeated Senegal 3–2, the result means that Norway secured its second play-off in World Cup history.

After the final whistle, wild joy erupted. The national team captain Ståle Solbakken rushed up to the stands and kissed his wife Anniken immediately.

– I suddenly saw that she was standing there, right before, Solbakken tells NRK.

He was lyrical after the victory.

– It was a fantastic football match. This is advertising for football, says Solbakken, who was not the only one to celebrate with love.

Both Atlético Madrid’s Alexander Sörloth gave his Lina Selnes a victory kiss, and goal king Erling Braut Haaland found his Isabel Haugseng Johansen in the crowd.

Also on hand in New Jersey and MetLife Stadium were Norwegian ski king Johannes Hösflot Kläbo and biathlete Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen, as well as actual royalty Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.

“Norway wins the WC”

6,000 kilometers away, the celebration was in full swing. In a video published by Norwegian VG a large group of Norwegians sits outside the Slottsplatsen and “rows”. The gesture has become Norway’s signature during the WC.

After the victory, the Norwegian capital was occupied by happy supporters.

“Norway wins the WC!” and “We shall wake the king” was chanted over and over.

In two WC matches in the USA, the Norwegian team has scored seven goals. That is as many goals as Norway scored in eight matches in three previous World Cups.

The neighboring country plays its last group stage match against France at 21.00 Swedish time on Friday and then settles who will clinch the group victory.
