LSK Kvinner is in financial crisis.
After today’s match, several players in the team started to cry.
Sunday’s away match against Brann may have been the last for LSK Women. Several players burst into tears after the final whistle.
– It is emotional. We don’t know what will happen in the future, but we know that some of the players will leave. Losing some, and maybe losing all, is incredibly tough, says player Mille Ivi Christensen to Norwegian Television 2.
The LSK players get sympathy from their opponent.
– You feel for them. It’s a bunch of good football players who might lose their jobs. It’s incredibly sad, we feel that too, says Brann’s team captain Karoline Haugland.
The money is almost gone
The reason for the crisis is simple: Money is running out. All players are for sale.
– We need someone to take over our license if this is to continue, said club leader Erlend Eidhammer to TV 2 earlier this week.
Several bailouts have taken place in recent years due to LSK’s strained finances. Now, if possible, the situation is even more urgent.
An extraordinary annual meeting will be held on Tuesday. There, the board will encourage the members to let another club take over the license for LSK’s teams in the Toppserien and division three. It can happen until next season, 2027, at the earliest.
LSK took a strong point away to league leader Brann, 0–0, and is seventh out of twelve teams in the Norwegian top league Toppserien.
Since the club changed its name from Team Strömmen to LSK Kvinner for 2010, there have been seven league and six cup titles.
